Filk Friday: Carla Ulbrich songs

This song cracks me up. Carla Ulbrich writes some funny stuff. While this isn't exactly a filk song like most of them, it's still a modern folk song. And I think she's great, so I'm sharing it anyway. This video was taken at Windycon 34 on November 10, 2007. I seem to have many videos in my bookmark list from Windycon. Sounds like a convention I need to make it to at some point.

Tell me what you think of her tongue-in-cheek response to the question of "how old are you?"

And just because I was thinking about what therapy might have done for me back in elementary school, here is Carla's song "Therapy Works." Different reason for therapy, but it works for writers. Makes me chuckle. Hope it makes you chuckle, too.

Haha, very cute! A friend of mine told me on the phone the other day that some delivery guy actually asked her is she was pregnant.

And she wasn't.

Dude, some questions you just don't voice, yanno?

Good stuff!

This reminds me of some of the clever word-play I used to hear in songs on the Dr. Demento radio show I listened to growing up.

Tom Lehrer, Tiny Tim, and The Smothers Brothers come to mind.

That's high praise, considering that those and other artists I heard on that show deeply influenced my love of toying with words as well as my somewhat snarky--some would say dark and cynical--sense of humor.

Wow, those were pretty good! And perhaps the funiest thing is, I can relate! :)

I'm glad you all enjoyed them.

And Brad, I love Tom Lehrer. So does my darling hubby, who wanted Poisoning Pigeons In the Park (minus the words) as our wedding recessional. I said no.

Funny how songs like these are so easy to relate to. Snark vs rude questions---->snark wins! And therapy to make up for the rest. :D

"Poisoning Pigeons" and Tiny Tim's "Tiptoe Through the Tulips" are two of my all time favorite funnies.
Man, I miss Dr. Demento.
